Lonesome Road

Written by Keith Mouland

Well I was loaded up with make believe
I had gimmicks guaranteed to ease my mind
I was using every trick in the book
And I was getting pretty good at killing time

You could always find me in some bar
I was drinking anything cheap and strong
A walking example of the blues
Since the day our love went wrong

Now there’s a lonesome road that you’re bound to travel
Yeah a lonesome road when you’re on your own
A lonesome road out in the cold light
A lonesome road when your love is gone

Well I sat out on my old back porch
Recouperating for a while
And I had chicken picking around my feet
And I was singing songs in a high lonesome style

But when the moonshine was gone
And there was nothing left to do
I looked towards the morning sun
Just to see if it was still shining through

There’s a lonesome road that you’re bound to travel
A lonesome road when you’re on your own
A lonesome road out in the cold light
A lonesome road when your love is gone
Yeah a lonesome road in the light of the dawn
